When Our World Gets Shaken

On August 23, 2011 an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 hit the North East of the United States.  According to CNN the earthquake was felt as far as eighty-eight miles from Washington DC.  This was one of the largest in area.  We think we live on solid ground and that our lives are firm and solid.  Then something comes along and shakes you up.  There might be a death in the family or close friend.  Someone gets sick.  Financial hardships or you lose your job.  Whatever happens we realize we are not on such solid ground.

The good news is that God is unshakable.  He is never changing, always the same.  Our salvation in Christ is assured; all you have to do is believe.  John 3:15-18(NIV):

that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Nothing can take away salvation once accepted.  No matter what happens in our lives we can rest assured that we will go to a better place in the end.  What about the coworker or next door neighbor?  Are they saved?  How about the stranger you strike up a conversation with on the sidewalk or standing in line?  We do not have to be the one to lead them to accepting Christ.  We might need to be the one to plant the seed though.  You never know how or when the seed will germinate and grow.  You may never know how many lives you touched and helped save in the end.  What is important though is planting the seed.  Then the Holy Spirit can reap the harvest.  We cannot neglect our responsibility to spread the gospel because we might not see the results.  You just never know whose life you might touch when you reach out. Matthew 28:18-20(NIV):

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
