Heavy Burdens

Once we went on a three mile hike with all our kids.  Cora the youngest couldn’t go as fast or as far as the rest.  Our pace was set for her speed.  After a short bit she wanted to be carried.  Nancy or I carried her for most of the hike.  Cora got to rest while riding on someone’s back.  Are you tired and worn out?  In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus tells us to come to Him.  His yoke is light and He promises rest.  One of my favorite poems is Footprints in the Sand.  In it a person looks back in the sand.  He sees two sets of foot prints walking.  It is during the hardest times of his life he only sees one set.  He asks God why he left him during the hard times of his life.  God said He didn’t leave him.  It was during those hardest times that He picked him up and carried him.

How awesome is it to know that when we are at our hardest times in life we are not alone.  God is no longer walking next to us.  It is then that we are in His arms while He holds us close to His heart.  We are never truly alone.  We do not have to face the hardships of this world alone.  All we have to do is accept Christ as savior.  All we have to do is turn to Him and allow Him to share our burden.  God might send a friend or family member to be there for with you.  He might use a stranger or someone from church.  We are here to help one another and give comfort.

Many hands make light work.  If we are there for one another all our burdens will be a bit lighter.  I saw a video clip of a guy trapped under a car.  A car and motorcycle crashed into each other.  Somehow the cyclist got trapped under the car.  The car was on fire.  A bystander saw the man trapped and attempted to lift the car.  By himself it didn’t budge.  A small group of people joined in the effort to no avail.  All they could do is lift the car slightly.  Finally a large enough group swarmed the car and lifted.  Another person pulled the biker out to safety.  One man couldn’t handle the burden alone.  A group had easily bore the burden together.
