No Amount of Justification Can Make It Right

Scripture:
Proverbs 4:10-19
(NASB)

  Hear, my son, and accept my sayings
And the years of your life will be many.
I have directed you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in upright paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be impeded;
And if you run, you will not stumble.
Take hold of instruction; do not let go.
Guard her, for she is your life.
Do not enter the path of the wicked
And do not proceed in the way of evil men.
Avoid it, do not pass by it;
Turn away from it and pass on.
For they cannot sleep unless they do evil;
And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.
For they eat the bread of wickedness
And drink the wine of violence.
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
The way of the wicked is like darkness;
They do not know over what they stumble.

Devotional:

Watching movies with my kids it is usually pretty easy to spot the bad guy.  Older movies also tended to make it obvious who the bad guy was.  They also had heroes to save the day.  Today the lines have blurred making it harder to spot the bad guy.  I have watched movies where the criminal ends up being the hero of the movie.  Somewhere along the way society changed the rules.  Being the criminal you really weren’t the bad guy.  Instead you were the victim of society or of the government.  Somehow you were justified in your actions making it alright.

The Bible tells a different story.  Well it is really the same old story unchanging.  The bad guys are still the bad guys.  No amount of justification changes it.  Wickedness is still wrong no matter how hard you try to convince yourself otherwise.  God makes it clear that the line hasn’t changed or blurred.  Sin is sin and it separates us from Him.  There is a hero waiting to save the day.  That too has never changed.  Jesus is our savior and He alone can save us.    Proverbs 4:14 “Do not enter the path of the wicked and do not proceed in the way of evil men.”  It is simple really.  We can choose the way of the righteous, or the way of evil men.  One leads to Christ and salvation.  The other leads to death and separation from God.  Proverbs 4:10 “Hear, my son, and accept my sayings and the years of your life will be many…”
