Stay the Course

Scripture:
Matthew 28:16-30
(NASB)

But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Devotional:

When giving directions to our house I tell people that our house is on the opposite end of what their GPS tells them.  For some reason they always place our house at the wrong end of the street.  It isn’t uncommon for someone to call on the way over to state they can’t find the house.  I ask them which end of the street they are on.  A few minutes after hanging up they are at our front door.  Accurate directions are essential for getting to your destination.  Being off just a quarter mile will prevent you from reaching your appointed destination.

Salvation is the same.  There is only one way into heaven.  Jesus informs His disciples to reach out into the world teaching everyone His commands.  Our great commission is to make Disciples of Christ of all nations.  Even though the way is clear sometimes we navigate by using poor directions.  Some people believe in second chances.  If I don’t make it to heaven in this life I can try again in the next.  Others believe that if they are good enough or do enough good they will make it into heaven.  Still others believe there is no heaven or hell and we all just move on to another existence of life.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” John 14:6 (NIV).  The bible is very clear that Jesus is the only way into heaven.  While we are out making disciples of all nations we must ensure we are giving accurate directions.  We have to overcome the “GPS” of this world and help others align themselves with accurate directions.  Our enemy will do anything to keep us from reaching our destination.  Some of his tactics include half truths and miss leading suggestions.  He will use sleight of hand to change our focus and direction.  If we are not careful we will stray off course ever so slightly.  The sad thing is that sometimes we are not even aware we have strayed.

Remember Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  Through Him and only through Him can we reach the Father.  If in doubt seek the truth by reading the bible, praying, and seeking after the Holy Spirit.  For the truth will set you free.  If you are trying to show others the truth about Christ remember GRACE.  Each of us needs grace.  As you received grace, give grace to others.  In the end there is only one way into heave…
