It's Your Job...

Scripture:

Ephesians 2:1-10 (NIV)

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.  All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts.  Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.  But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.  And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Titus 1:10-16 (NIV)

For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.  They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain.  One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”  This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.  To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.  They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

Devotional:

In a way it must have been an exciting time after the revolutionary war was over.  The Colonies had won their freedom and a new nation was born.  A nation created to be united in God, with the freedom to worship Jesus anytime or place.   Sadly as time has slipped by our nation has slipped away from God.  Does this sound familiar?  If it doesn’t then you need to through the Old Testament.  A nation was born and rose to become the mightiest nation of its time.  What happened to this once mighty nation?  They forgot their roots and left God behind.  I look at the United States and I see history repeating itself.

The good news is it isn’t too late.  Christians need to stand firm in faith.  We are all called to perform for God.  He has set tasks for us to complete.  If all of us undertook what God has called us to we could change the world.  If twelve disciples rocked this world over two thousand years ago imagine what we could do today.  It is time for Christians to stop waiting for someone else to do the job they were called to do.  We are surrounded by those who are teaching false teachings.  It is time we set the records straight.  It is time we did that which Christ is calling us to do…
