What Part Am I?

Scripture:

A while back I read an email that went around. To paraphrase the subject was how the body's different parts argued over who was the most important and boss. The feet said they were because without them the body couldn't go anywhere. The eyes said they were because without them the body couldn't see. The mouth and stomach each gave the reasons why they were the most important. Eventually the bottom, different word used, spoke out stating it was the most important. The rest of the body parts just laughed. The bottom plugged up and wouldn't allow anything to pass. After a short while the eyes couldn't see straight, the stomach was all a mess, the feet were wobbly, so on and so forth. In the end the bottom was declared the boss and most important.

In order for our bodies to be complete we need all the parts. In order for the body of Christ to be complete we are all needed. God gave each of us a different gift. We are to use our gifts accordingly. We have all heard opposites attract. Nancy and I are pretty close to opposite in several areas of our lives. The beauty of it is that because of our differences we end up complementing each other. We can play on one another's strengths and fortify against our weaknesses. Each person has strengths and weaknesses. As we come together in the body of Christ we fortify ourselves. We complement our strengths and overcome our weaknesses.

One of the differences between our bodies and the body of Christ is that there is no question to who is head of all. Jesus is the head of the church, our boss. Even though all of us make up the body of Christ each of us has a personal relationship with Jesus. We can, and should, have one on one time with God. But when we go to Him do we do so with a wish list or seek Him to just fix things? Instead we should focus on going to God just to be with Him.

Jesus knows our hearts and motives. Are our motives self seeking or do we genuinely seek God's grace? In John 6:26 Jesus tells the people to seek Him for the right reasons. We are told they went looking for Jesus because what of what He could give them. Why do we pray? Is it for a wish list to be filled? Is Jesus treated as a genie in a bottle or do we seek a relationship with Him? How often do we go to God just to be in His presence.

Each of us make different parts of the body of Christ. As individuals, and as a group, we need to seek Jesus not just to petition our needs but to build a relationship.
