What is the greatest thing in all existence?

Scripture:
1 Corinthians 13

What is the greatest thing in all existence? We have phrases like powerful as a locomotive or strong as steel. Another saying used by Ford is “built Ford tough” and Chevrolet has “built like a rock.” We have your macho man tough and strong. But again I ask what is the greatest thing in all existence, OK besides God? According to 1 Corinthians 13:13 love is “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Look at two people in this world. One person is a stranger you see passing by on the street. You might say hi to them. In that first meeting you may or may not like that person. Something could just rub you the wrong way. Something could be said or done that irritates you. The other person is someone you love more than life itself. That person seems to do no wrong. The little things that annoy you in another person do not exist. It is as if you see them through rose colored glasses.

Love is what allows us to overcome our differences. Love is what brings us together. Without love the passing person is here today and gone tomorrow. With love that person becomes a part of your life. Enemies become friends through the gift of love. The ultimate example is God's love. His love overcame death for us. God's love built a bridge so that we may cross over to be with Him. Without God's perfect love we would be lost and condemned to death and separation from Him.

In science we have learned there is no such thing as cold, just the absence of heat. So if cold is just the absence of heat then hate is just the absence of love. There is no death just the absence of God. Love brings us life, existence with God. What could be more powerful than that?
