Scripture:
Isaiah 40:27-31 (NIV)
Isaiah 40:27-31 (NIV)
Why do you complain, Jacob?
Why do you say, Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Devotional:
Years ago I was working on some computers and servers at a
client site. I was with my brother
working on a project. We had installed a
battery backup for the server. When all
was setup and ready we turned on the server.
In about ten or fifteen minutes the battery backup started beeping. We looked at each other wondering why it
would be beeping. After all the power
was on, no fuses were blown. After a few
minutes of tracing wires and troubleshooting we quickly found that the battery
backup was plugged into a power strip which was plugged into the battery
backup. Somehow they plugged into each
other with no outside source of electricity.
Quickly the battery was drained.
How often are we struggling with a task on our own energy
only to become drained? We hear God
calling us. We obediently and quickly
answer the call. All too quickly we
become burned out. Then we step back and
ask why? What happened? I am doing what God called me to do. The answer is an easy one. We are plugged into ourselves. We attempt the task on our own, leaving God
out of the picture. Our strength and
energy will eventually fail us. It is
only when we plug into God that we have an inexhaustible supply of energy. Only when we rely on God allowing Him to work
through us will we have the strength to finish the race. Just as the battery backup keeps its charge
by the electricity coming from the outlet we can keep ourselves charged
up. We will remain fully charged when we
are plugged into God.
