Breaking The Barrier

Scripture:
Ephesians 2:14-18
(NIV)

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Devotional:

Barricades, barriers, and walls all go up for one purpose; to create a physical separation between two different groups.   The Great Wall of China is probably the largest such barrier created by man.  There was the wall separating East and West Berlin in Germany.  In neighborhoods all across America you will find fences of all sorts separating families’ yards.

There is one barrier between man and God.  That is sin.  Ever since Adam and Eve committed the first sin, man became separated from God.  Nothing we can do can remove the barrier.  We are eternally separated from our Creator.  However, God provided a way for us.  He made a way for us to get past this barrier.  John 3:16-18:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Jesus is the means of getting past the great barrier called sin. Unfortunately some people are misguided in believing that if they are good enough, then they will go to heaven.  Some people believe that you can pray someone else into heaven.  Some believe if you are not good enough in this life you go through life again.  You repeat the process until you get it right.  The truth is there is only one way to get across the barrier of sin.      All who accept Christ believing He died for their sins and was resurrected will be saved.  It’s not a question.  It’s not a maybe, or possibly.  Through Christ we are reunited with God.  Nothing else can break past the barrier called sin.  Nothing else will bring reconciliation.  Only by what Christ has done can we be reunited with God.
