Scripture:
Psalm 91:14-16 (NASB)
Psalm 91:14-16 (NASB)
"Because he has loved Me,
therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
"He will call upon Me, and I
will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
"With a long life I will
satisfy him
And let him see My salvation."
And let him see My salvation."
Devotional:
Everyone wants long life.
In Psalm 91 God tells us that He will give long life to those who call
upon Him. Yet we see all over the world
Godly men and women who seem to have lived short lives. Our lives here on earth are numbered. Nothing we can do will change that. People seek eternal life, sometimes going to
great lengths to find it. In Indiana Jones the Last Crusade they find
the Holy Grail. In the movie there were
Nazi leaders seeking the grail so that they could live forever. Indiana was seeking his father, and in the
end the grail as well. It was a race to
see who found it first. When they found
the grail, there was one of the Knights Templar who had lived for hundreds of
years guarding it. How many more books
and movies have been written and made telling the tail of finding eternal youth
and life.
The good news is that we have found the fountain of
youth. We have long life. As a matter of fact the life given to us
never ends. It isn’t hard to find at
all. Anyone can drink from its cup. God promises us long life. Sure some of us will live long lives here on
earth. But each of us will live for
eternity in Heaven. Well that is if you
have accepted Christ as your savior.
Jesus is the key to long life.
Because we know Jesus we know God.
When we call upon Jesus we are calling upon God. God promises to be there for us and to
protect us. He promises us long
life. All you have to do is accept. John
3:16-19 (NIV):
For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever
believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned
already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
