Revelation 9:13-21
(ESV)
Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice
from the four horns of the golden altar before God, saying to the sixth angel
who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river
Euphrates.” So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day,
the month, and the year, were released to kill a third of mankind. The number
of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their
number. And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them:
they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire and of sulfur, and the
heads of the horses were like lions' heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came
out of their mouths. By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by
the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. For the power of the
horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents
with heads, and by means of them they wound.
The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues,
did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and
idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or
hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their
sexual immorality or their thefts.
Devotional:
As I read through today’s scripture I couldn’t help but
think of our society. I think of Rome
and the days before she fell. I see the
similarities in the two. Sex has become something casual. It is something to do whenever and with
whomever. Murder is everywhere. In the media you are hearing how someone went
in and shot everyone they could. They
kill anywhere from just a few to dozens.
I think can’t anyone see the signs? Don’t they realize where we are headed? But just as it will be in Revelation people
now will not see. I wonder if it isn’t
so much as seeing but not wanting to accept.
Because by accepting they acknowledge their wrong doing. They also acknowledge that there really is a
God and that they are not the supreme being in their lives. OK, I admit it can be easier to stick my head
in the sand and deny.
But whom am I kidding?
Who am I fooling? No matter what I
believe in the end there are two places to go when we leave this life. Yes, I said
this life because we do have life after death.
Do you wan to spend all eternity in heaven, or hell? Do you want to live forever in a place of
torment beyond your worse nightmares and fears?
I don’t know about you but I wan to live in a place that is
perfect. A place so beautiful it is
beyond compare by anything we know. What
about you?
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
