Go Through The Washing Machine

Scripture:
Isaiah 64:6-9
(NASB)

For all of us have become like one who is unclean,
And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;
And all of us wither like a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
There is no one who calls on Your name,
Who arouses himself to take hold of You;
For You have hidden Your face from us
And have delivered us into the power of our iniquities.
But now, O LORD, You are our Father,
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all of us are the work of Your hand.
Do not be angry beyond measure, O LORD,
Nor remember iniquity forever;
Behold, look now, all of us are Your people.

Devotional:

After working on the car or doing some yard work my clothes get dirty and I usually have rags that are filthy.  Then an amazing thing happens.  They get dumped into the washing machine followed by the dryer.  All of a sudden what was once filthy and unfit for use has become clean and ready to be used.  As we go through life we make mistakes and we sin.  Isaiah says that we become like filthy rags.  Just as a washing machine washes the dirty clothes Christ washes us clean.

Isaiah also states God is a master potter and we are but the clay.  Have you ever seen a master craftsman work clay into beautiful objects?  They make it look so easy.  They spin and shape and in the end there is a beautiful jar or bowl.  If I were to try it my clay would warp and flop about remaining useless and ugly.

God works in our lives shaping and molding us.  Christ cleanses us, removing all sin.  Through Him we are able to have the relationship we are meant to have with God.  Then God will work in our lives shaping and strengthening us.  We will be made whole through Christ by God’s work in us.  Allow yourself to go through the washing machine and be spun upon the potter’s wheel…
