Scripture:
Genesis 15:1-6 (NASB)
Genesis 15:1-6 (NASB)
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a
vision, saying,
“Do not fear, Abram,
I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.”
I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.”
Abram said, “O Lord God, what will You give me, since I am
childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said,
“Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir.” Then
behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This man will not be your
heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir.”
And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the
stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your
descendants be.” Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as
righteousness.
Devotional:
Abraham is a great example for hope. Despite all his mistakes and failures he
still received God’s blessings. Even
when he tried to take matters into his own hands God was still with him. He still received God’s blessings and God
kept His promises to him.
Where have you fallen short?
Does it seem that God has forgotten you?
Remember Abraham, God promised him a son born of himself and Sarah. When Isaac was born Abraham was one hundred
years old. Not exactly the age I want to
be when having a baby. The point is that
God kept His promise. It wasn’t in
Abraham’s or Sarah’s time frame, but in God’s.
It may not seem like it at times But God is faithful and He
keeps His promises. We just have to have
faith. Even though it doesn’t seem like
it God’s plan is being played out in our lives.
Things only get messed up when we try to take matters into our own
hands. The good thing is that even if we
do screw it up God is still faithful. He
will still bless us. He will always keep
His promises. If you are ever in doubt
just look in Genesis at Abraham’s life.
You will see God’s work. You will
see Abraham’s great faith, and his failures.
You will see God’s faithfulness and fulfillment of His promises.
