Scripture:
Matthew 10:16-20 (NIV)
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Devotional:
Jesus sent the twelve out into the world. Before going they were warned of what to expect. Some two-thousand plus years later we are also sent out into the world. We are sent into a den of vipers and wolves. Amongst the enemy are lost sheep. It is for those lost sheep that we go. It is not only for us but all the lost sheep that Jesus came and died for. As we go out are we prepared to deal with what comes our way? I have heard it put several times to love the person, but you don’t have to accept the sin. We need to accept those around us and love them, Jesus does. But we do not have to let them take advantage of us.
As we go forth into the world we have nothing to fear. Christ is with us, the Holy Spirit will guide us. Sometimes we do not act because we are afraid. Just looking out there you can see all the snakes and wolves prowling around. They are waiting to pounce. It is too easy to hunker down and hide, waiting it out. Instead we need to go out among the wolves. We are the light of the world. We are the ones that will show Christ. It is through us and what we do that others can be saved. There are lost sheep that need saving. Who knows some of those sheep just may be dressed in wolves clothing and don’t even realize it…
